Browsing gemstones
We organize our gemstones inventory in various browse
categories. There are three primary browsing categories:
From these categories, there are related sub-categories, at each stage
narrowing your search to a more specific subject matter. You can browse the
hierarchy by clicking on the relevant category or sub-category, at which point
any sub-categories under that category will be listed.
Gemstones search tips
You can search our gemstones inventory quickly by a
single keyword or choose "More Options" to put in extra terms.
Keyword search can be found on the top of every page on the website.
If you know the name of the gemstone you are looking for, the easiest
way to find it is just to type the name into the keyword search box.
For example, if you enter [sapphire blue oval], the search will return
all the records which include these words.
If you know the item reference number you are looking for, then you
can enter this number or multiply numbers separated by spaces (e.g. "EM142 yax128ak") and click the "SEARCH" button to return pages containing information
about this gemstone.
Using advance search
Advance gemstone search options can be accessed by clicking
the "SEARCH" icon in the top navigation bar on every page
in our website. There are three advance search facilities to find your
gemstone on our website:
Each search option will limit your search results to a greater or lesser
extent. So, if you get too many results, try adding more criteria; if you get
too few, try removing or broadening your search criteria.
In addition to the gem specific search options you may specify records per page,
sort order and boolean, where by selecting "Match ALL options" search will
get records which match ALL of your selected options and by selecting "Match ANY
options" search will get records which match ANY of your selected options. And finally,
you can make your search faster by selecting "Show only text descriptions".
Managing search results
Managing your search results is a critical part of the purchase process.
You may want to keep track of what you have found before deciding if you want
to buy it. This can be time-consuming and a complicated process, but our
management tools help you do this more easily and efficiently.
If you get too many results, try to refine your search by using the
"Refine search" form on the bottom of every search result page.
Save items to your Wish List for later consideration. Saving to your
Wish List does not cost anything! Simply click "Add to Wish List" link
and add the item to your Wish List. And you can always move the saved
items to your Shopping Basket or completely remove it later.
Understanding gemstone descriptions
Every gemstone on our website is represented with a photograph
and detailed description on the gemstone detail page and a general
overview of the gemstone variety in the Guide to Gemstones Varieties.
All photographs are taken with a digital camera and are actual
photographs of each of the gemstones in our inventory. We do our best
to show an image that is as close to the actual gemstone
as possible. We do not editing our images with saturation or hue.
Please note, that not eye visible inclusions can be seen on the picture.
That happens because our photos are taken at high magnification.
Our verbalization of color is based on the GIA/Munsell color grading system.
The Munsell color-order system is a way of precisely specifying colors and showing the relationships among colors. Every color has three qualities or attributes: hue, value, and chroma. The GIA terms are hue, tone, and saturation but the meaning is the same. You can find detailed color descriptions, by clicking the color description link on every gemstone detail page.
Color correct gemstone photography is our ultimate objective and in most
cases the colors of our images will be even more specific than the verbal
description. However, since the colors of images do show some variations
depending on the computer, the screen settings, and the monitor quality, it
is important to consider both the image and the color description.
Our verbalization of gemstone enhancements fully comply with the FTC Guides.
With the exception of the normal fashioning (cutting and polishing) of a diamond
and other gemstone.
Because of the complexity of the "sliding scale" for clarity from GIA
standards, we describe clarity for all gemstones on the same scale on our website,
regardless of whether the gemstone is a Type 1, Type 2, or Type 3 gemstone.
Therefore, a gemstone that is described as "eye-clean" will not have
eye-visible inclusions, whether the stone is a Type 1 (Tanzanite, for example),
Type 2 (Garnet, for example), or Type 3 (Emerald, for example), in the clarity
descriptions on our website.
